Woofferton got back to winning ways when they entertained lowly Fownhope in a vital Herefordshire Premier League match on Saturday.
They won at home 2-0.
The first half was fairly even but Woofferton certainly produced enough chances to have gone in comfortably in the lead at half-time.
However, they failed to capitalise on any of them and it was Fownhope who came nearest to scoring when a well-struck free kick brought a very good save from the home keeper. Woofferton were a disappointed outfit at the break and were wondering if this game was going to go the way of a few recent encounters when they have thrown away good chances to win matches. Woofferton came out for the second half with great resolve.
They eventually took the lead when a good passing movement between Duncan Edwards and Mark Desborough ended with the latter, revelling in his new role in midfield, advancing into the box and slotting the ball home with the visiting custodian rooted to the spot.
It was not long before Woofferton got a second when Timmy Moriarty found the ball on his favourite left foot and rifled it into the corner of the net, with the goalkeeper once again seemingly mesmerised.
The game was as good as over at this stage, but Fownhope as they always do, kept battling and indeed produced their best form in the last ten minutes without actually causing any undue concerns to the Woofferton defence which looked very strong throughout the game.
Fixture for Saturday, April 12: Herefordshire Premier Division: Ewyas Harold v Woofferton at 2.30pm.
