BROMSGROVE youth cyclist Ross Dingley has every reason to be proud of himself after taking a huge seven seconds off a national record.

Dingley, aged 15, shaved the seconds off the British Schools Cycling Association roller racing one kilometre record at the West Midlands Regional Championship in Rugeley last Friday.

He then went on to win the title and followed it up first place at the national event in Cardiff 48 hours later.

Younger brother Jason, aged eight, also beat the previous national record for his age group both on Friday and at the nationals. He won the regional title but had to settle for silver at the nationals.

Jessica Varnish, from Aston fields, broke another national record and Lauren Carbutt finished third in her race.

On the circuits, Peter Banham had excellent rides at Curborough, taking fourth in the main event. Genevieve Billington took third girl and Leanne Talbot second girl in the U10s.

Next Tuesday sees cycle skills and grass track racing at North Bromsgrove High School.
