MEMBERS of the Redditch Sea Cadets are celebrating after sailing away with two wins at a national competition.

The group of thirteen 12 to 17 year olds beat off competition from hundreds of cadets from across the country to scoop the armed guard drill display and best guard commander.

The competition was held on board HMS Raleigh at the Royal Navy Training School in Cornwall last weekend.

The organisation was set up in Redditch in 1985 and was the first cadet group in the country to gain a Lottery grant of £192,000 to revamp its meeting place in Park Farm.

Cadets take part in a range of activities from cooking and sailing to regular discos and international exchanges.

The group also has an accomplished band which plays at many events, including Astwood Bank Carnival and Remembrance Sunday.

The group meets every Monday and Friday from 7-9pm and Wednesdays for band practice at Unit 3 on Upper Crossgate Road, Park Farm Industrial Estate.
