CLUBS and groups in Alcester and the surrounding villages face a nail-biting wait to hear if their cash bids have been accepted.

Tens of thousands of pounds have been requested from Stratford Council's revenue and capital grant schemes.

Councillors on Arden and Avon area community committees have already decided on most applications but groups have had to wait for the outcome until after a cooling-off period. The decisions could be announced today.

Alcester Tennis Club has asked for £11,750 to create a new area for children aged from three to eight.

The tennis club wants to promote the sport of mini tennis in line with the Lawn Tennis Association and the money will be used to start building four mini tennis courts and a practice wall on its site in Moorfield Road.

The Greig Centre has asked for a £35,000 grant to meet maintenance and training costs including repairs and painting of the main hall, resurfacing the outside tennis court and resurfacing part of the car park.

Alcester Guides and Scouts want £14,500 to go towards new headquarters but will have to wait until June before a decision is made.

The scheme costs £216,000 but a decision was deferred because a bid for Lottery funding looks like being unsuccessful and the council committee wants to investigate other sources of funding.

Salford Priors Amateur Theatrical Society wants £650 towards the staging of a production.
