MORE than £60,000 is up for grabs in a national awards scheme that recognises start-up businesses that have the flare and determination to succeed.
HSBC has begun its hunt for top new entrepreneurs with the launch of the HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards 2003.
Up to 400,000 people are expected to start their own business this year and the Start-Up Stars Awards reward businesses under two years old that can demonstrate the inspiration, determination and discipline to succeed.
Now in their third year, the awards are presented in association with the Daily Express and Sky News.
Ten finalists will share prizes worth £65,000, including £20,000 cash for the winner and £5,000 for the runner-up. Each finalist will also win consultancy services and software worth £4,000 from Croner Consulting and Intuit.
John Rendall, head of business banking at HSBC, said the bank had a track record of providing support for people wishing to start-up their own business.
The closing date for entries is Friday, May 30, with the winner and runner-up due to be announced at a VIP dinner on Thursday, October 2, at London's Savoy Hotel.
Entry forms are available from HSBC branches, online at www.ukbusiness.hsbc.com or by phoning 0870 902 3333.
