PLANS for a new supermarket on the site of a high school are going before county councillors for consultation.
Worcestershire County Council's planning and regulatory committee has to discuss a new St John's Tesco store in order to respond to Worcester City Council.
On Tuesday it will consider the revised plans drawn up by Tesco. The original plan was withdrawn in February. The new plans have excluded the area to the north of Swanpool Walk.
The new plans include a food store, petrol station, parking, landscaping, an access road and a residential development on the current Christopher Whitehead High School.
Members on the committee are being advised to inform Worcester City Council that the application is in accordance with the Worcestershire County Structure Plan.
In his report to councillors, the director of environmental services says that the city council has already approved plans by Sainsbury's to develop the site.
Richard Wigginton says the Tesco store is larger than the Sainsbury's plan and is expected to have a higher turnover.
"The applicants contended previously that the impact of the proposal would not be significantly different from the Sainsbury's proposal," he said.
The Local Plan, which dictates the city's planning priorities, is currently subject to a public local inquiry.
