A MAJOR investment is planned for a busy Droitwich community hall, with up to £45,000 of funding now available to revamp the building.
The town council needs thousands of pounds for essential structural repairs and cosmetic work at its Heritage Way centre and councillors at a Wychavon District Council meeting this week agreed the necessary improvements should go ahead.
The authority has a cash pot of more than £300,000 for community use, thanks to house-builder William Davis, who developed homes in Droitwich South.
The revamp will include repairing a damaged suspended ceiling in one of the centre's two halls and improvements to the central heating and kitchens.
Work is set to take around 13 weeks to complete and will allow classes from ballet and sugar craft to art clubs and pension groups to use the facilities at full capacity.
"Closing the John Corbett room was a major blow to activities in the town and we're delighted that Wychavon has agreed to release the money to bring it back to full business," said Councillor Pamela Davey.
"The suspended ceiling had begun to fall, it had got to desperate measures and the structural repairs are definitely needed."
The council's request has been divided into primary and secondary needs, with works to the roof, a new cold pipe and damp treatments, being top of the wish list.
Secondary works, include laying new floors, replacing the kitchen, central heating, window glazing and decoration.
