THE site of Broadwaters Mill has been in use since 1240. It was used as a mill to clean and thicken freshly woven cloth for 500 years.
It changed hands a number of times and the original building was destroyed in the 1830s. In 1847, a corn mill was built and the water has also been used to power mills for iron and for a laundry. The building was mostly demolished in 1937, leaving part of it as a shelter.
The Revitalising Broadwaters Mill project was funded by grants from a number of groups including the Local Heritage Initiative, Wyre Forest Community Safety Partnership, the district council and the county council.
The programme of events to mark its relaunch as a community amenity includes a wooden sculpture of a man leaving work by craftsman Jim Heath and the installation of artwork by schoolchildren.
Tonight, there is a book launch at St Oswald's Church by author Betty Park, followed by entertainment and fireworks.
On Saturday at 10.30am there is a guided history walk and on Sunday, a Songs of Praise at St Oswald's Church. Further details on the project can be obtained from Lesley Fox on 01562 732976.
