TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD: At the Pershore Townswomen's Guild meeting on April 1, the only reference to All Fools Day, was made by the chairman in her opening remarks. She introduced a new member, Mrs N Bennett and welcomed Mrs D McBride, from the Pershore branch of the society, who gave a short talk about their activities and said how grateful they were that MS had been chosen as the Guild's charity this year.
Members were reminded about the Federation Arts and Crafts Exhibition on June 7 for which tickets are now available.
The secretary Mrs Beale, read a bulletin from Westminster police warning people about two scams which are attempted over the phone.
Mrs Lockhart announced that Miss D Wright had decided to live at St Dunstan's in Brighton and that Mrs D Robinson is in the Cottage Hospital and would welcome visitors.
A few seats were still available for the visit to Madresfield Court on April 16 and the coach will leave Paddock Close at 9.45am and Broad Street at 9.50am.
Mrs A Brown will again be competing in the finals of the Federation Scrabble competition on May 10, when a team comprising Mesdames, Bateman, Botterill and Rubbra will compete in the quiz final. Transport can be arranged for members wishing to attend this event.
It is hoped that the Ramblers group will be able to meet again in May.
Members were shown an embroidered tablecloth which had been given to Pershore Guild by St Peters Guild, following the sad closure of their Guild.
After coffee, Mrs D Sutton gave a fascinating talk entitled Young Ladies Don't Play the Trombone and related some amusing experiences from playing in orchestras and dance bands. She gave a useful demonstration of the trombone and ended by playing a well-known tune, The Acrobat. Mrs Beale gave the vote of thanks.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 6 in Wulstan Hall at 10am when Mrs C Sheldon will talk about her Experiences in Kenya. Visitors and new members always welcome.
There will be a raffle.
ARTS THEATRE CLUB: At the evening meeting on March 21, members of the club enjoyed an illustrated talk by Mrs M Harrington on her visit to the Chateaux of The Loire, some years ago. The slides of the lovely and historic buildings were much appreciated. The chairman reminded those present that from April meeting onwards the meetings would take place in Pershore's New Town Hall, in the High Street. The AGM would take place on April 25, and would be followed by an evening of words and music provided by members.
Outings have been arranged to Noises Off at Malvern Theatre in April. Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to meetings. Contact Ann Buckley on 01386 860014 about future events.
GARDENING CLUB: The March meeting took place on Thursday, March 27 at Wulstan Hall, and commenced at 7.30pm.
The members enjoyed a talk by Frank Hardy, retired deputy head of Pershore College, entitled The Low Maintenance Garden. This gave members food for thought with ways to minimise weeding with the use of various membranes and mulches, and reduce backache! There followed a lively discussion and lots of questions.
The competition was a vase of five stems of daffodils which was won by Caroline Abbey with June Warner second and Frances Watson-Smyth third.
The next meeting, on April 24, will be a talk by Keith Orchard Robinson, on The Derbyshire Custom of Well-dressing. There will also be a bring and buy plant and produce sale. Visitors and new members welcome.
MONDAY CLUB (OVER 60'S): Have moved to it's new venue. The next club meeting will be held on April 14, at Pershore's New Town Hall, in High Street, (the old post office), entrance is through the side door, and the meeting will commence at 2pm as usual. The bus will be on the usual run too and from the meeting. Old and new members will be welcome.
ARTHRITIS RESEARCH CAMPAIGN: The Pershore branch are holding their Annual Easter Fair on Saturday, April 12 from 10am to 12noon, at Charlton Old Schoolroom, Charlton, near Pershore.
Easter goods, cake stall, plants and produce, raffle, tombola and other surprises! Entry is only 50p on the door which includes coffee/tea and biscuits, and everyone is welcome. Further details please contact Helen Fowler 01386 860331.
This is a 21st celebration year and Pershore branch have other events organised to help celebrate, these include the 21st birthday party, which is being held on June 21, between 2pm and 4pm at Almonry Close, Pershore. Their usual flag day in July and, a Black Country evening, which promises to be a very good evening, in October and commencing at 7.30pm, at the Arts Centre, Evesham. Please note that this has now been changed from September to October. And, looking even further ahead to the Christmas Fair on December 6.
