VOLLEYBALL: Mid-table Cleobury Mortimer ended their National League Division Two season with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at high-flying Tameside.
Cleobury finished in seventh position after avoiding the threat of relegation with recent victories.
But they could not end on a high note at second-placed Tameside, going down 25-16, 26-24, 25-13.
Cleobury's Herefordshire and Worcestershire League team lost 3-0 at Redhill who they now entertain on April 27.
Corrina Downes was voted player-of-the-match as her speed at the net was instrumental in preventing the opposition from returning the ball on many occasions.
Cleobury went down 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 but can be proud of their display and new-found ability to pull together when the pressure is on.
In the West Midlands League, Cleobury men lost 3-1 at Birmingham University.
Jamie Guest, 13, made his league debut and played well in defence.
Birmingham were out of the blocks quickly in the first set with their big hitters causing Cleobury's depleted side problems.
The villagers improved with the help of Simon Fish and Adam Bills as well as solid blocking from Paul Guest.
But Cleobury struggled to keep their form and were not helped by dubious refereeing decisions.
