Easter comes this year at a time of unusual natural forwardness. The land is full of beauty and promise owing to the effects of a mild winter and a warm spring. Vegetation is fully three weeks earlier this year than usual, and the plum blossom, the annual glory of the Vale, is already past its prime. If the holidays are favoured with fine weather they should come as a boon to the vast numbers of our people waiting for a taste of country air and a sight of the revived and reviving natural beauties of the spring.

The services throughout the great Easter Festival were generally well attended at both churches and the number of Communicants was greater than ever. Primroses, daffodils and narcissi were used in profusion and made a brave show.

There is to be no formal public appeal in Evesham for funds to pay for the Coronation celebrations, but donations and other financial support will be welcomed by the Coronation Committee so that the burden on the rates will be minimised. This was decided the General Purposes Committee of the Council on Wednesday. From details about the arrangements for illuminated decorations, it appeared that an extra £100 would be needed for new equipment, which the town would then have in hand for use as and when desired.

A small plot of land in France is to be named Evesham Square in honour of the visit later this month of 314 Vale of Evesham residents who will be making the trip to Dreux. Taking pride of place in the square will be a red and black painted British pillar box, a gift from the Evesham Twinning Association to their counterparts in Dreux. Mr T.Newell, secretary of the local association, told the Journal that the plot was almost in the centre of Dreux outside the Lycee Rotrou School.
