A GROUP of youngsters will have shiny new pots and pans for their camping trip this weekend thanks to a cash windfall of £100.
The 2nd Worcester Scout Group has been able to buy the new cookware thanks to the Making a Difference campaign run by Worcester Round Table and the Evening News.
The campaign seeks to "make a difference" in the local community by donating cash to organisations in the Worcester area.
The application from the group, based in St John's, was one of the ones chosen to win a slice of the £1,000 given away during March.
"We were very, very pleased when we found out we had been awarded the £100 we asked for," said Beverley Collins, secretary for the group.
"We have already put it to good use and bought the pots and pans we wanted for camping trips."
The cubs' Green Pack is due to go camping this weekend at the Kinver Edge Scout Campsite, near Kidderminster.
They will be the first to use the shiny new cookware, including two large pots - or Dixies - one frying pan and two large kettles.
"One of the best ways to let the children try out the knowledge and skills they learn at their meetings, and test their diplomacy and team-building skills, is by taking them to camp," said Ms Collins.
"For many children, Cub or Scout camp is the first time they will have been away from home and it is amazing how quickly they realise they can cope without luxuries like their TV and computer games, and yet still have fun!"
