A SCHOOL's sixth formers have raised cash for charity by cooking up a treat.
Marie Curie Cancer Care has been the lucky recipient of £220 after a culinary fund-raising effort from pupils at Manor Park School, in Turnpike Close, St John's.
The students, with severe and complex learning difficulties, have been cooking for guests over recent months and urging repayment in the form of donations to charity.
Learn a lot
"The scheme has allowed us to learn a lot about cookery, management of food, maths through calculations, using reading skills when finding recipes and socialising with many people," said city councillor Richard Bird, head of sixth form and cooking arts teacher.
"All the students have enjoyed the activity and it has helped them to develop very important life skills."
The money was presented to David Sparrey, Marie Curie's fund-raising co-ordinator, at Manor Park's Easter Assembly yesterday.
