WINNERS in the March draw of the Corse & Staunton Village Hall 100 Club were 1 Mrs A Penman, 2 Mr B Jones, 3 Mrs E Harley and 4 Mrs V Allen.

Two members of the public were welcomed at a meeting of Corse Parish Council by the chairman Pat Lewis. The, clerk Norman Davis, was able to report that the Forest of Dean District Council have agreed to contribute £400 towards the cost of resurfacing the recycling area at the Prince of Wales Public House. Mr Bernard Newman, the landlord, will also contribute £400.

The waste paper is still causing untidiness through being deposited on the ground when the bin is full.

Nothing had been received from the Shire Hall by the clerk concerning the poor level of illumination in Prince Crescent/Compton Close.

The local police were supporting the request for a 30mph speed limit in the Gloucester Road.

Nothing had been done about the dangerous Worcester Road junction and the clerk expressed disappointment that the divisional surveyor had still not attended to the bollards near the bakery or the removal of the dead elm near the village hall.

It has now been confirmed that the length of Church Lane as far as the eastern boundary of Corse churchyard should be maintained by the Highways Department.

Coun Lewis told the meeting the upgrade plans for the village hall had now been passed, she also reported that the Youth Club, which uses the village hall for its meetings, is one of the largest in the Forest of Dean with 75 members between eight and 15 years. The council was asked to show their support for the village hall upgrade by donation or letter and after discussions it was agreed to leave the matter until after the local elections. The Staunton and Corse Scout Group are also to have a new Scout Hut.

The clerk reported an increase in fly tipping in the village with gas cylinders and a mattress having been dumped recently. The traffic hazard caused by a number of cars being parked on the road in Straight Lane causing cars to straddle the road was brought to the notice of the parish council. Steps are being taken to deal with the hazard. The condition of the pavement in Boundary Place, which was dangerous, was also reported and the pests department is to be notified after it was reported that rats were seen on a piece of land in Compton Close. District councillor Mrs Mary McGhee, who is retiring after many years, was thanked by the chairman for her marvellous record of attendance and coun Nick Hulls is also retiring from the parish council, both were thanked for their service over the years.
