For over 40 years the ladies of Pauntley have been getting together on the first Wednesday of each month for their sewing meeting. These sessions were begun by the late Mary Thackwell. The most members have been 14 but for the April meeting at Elm Grove, Pauntley, home of Mrs Anne Solesbury, there were seven present. This was due to several apologies from people on holiday. Over the years the ladies have worked on a variety of projects such as items for bazaars and church kneelers. They meet in members' homes and treat it as a social gathering. New members are always welcome. The May meeting is on Wednesday, May 7 at 7.30pm at the home of Mrs D Marklow.
The service on Sunday at St John the Evangelist Church, Pauntley is matins at 10.15am conducted by Mrs Jessie Williams.
The grass cutting season is with us again. As locals and visitors already know, the churchyard at St John the Evangelist Church in Pauntley is always beautifully kept. This is due to a small band of volunteers who keep the grass mown. The rota is in place for April but it would be very helpful if more volunteers could be found. If you can spare an hour or so every four or five weeks for grass cutting you will be most welcome to join the rota. Eric can be reached on (01531) 820230.
Are you turning out some bric-a-brac or books? Then they will find a good home on Pauntley church's market stall on Wednesday, April 23 from 9am-11am. The venue is under the Market House in Newent. Other items needed to fill the stalls are plants, cakes and produce. Contact Jane, Emma or Anne on (01531) 820230 and they will collect if necessary. Proceeds are for Pauntley church funds.
