Malvern U15's have continued their remarkable progress over the last two years by lifting London's most-established junior sevens title at Weybridge Vandals RFC.

The squad, captained superbly by Adam Green, showed great skill, stamina and commitment to overcome the best junior clubs in the South-East.

The tournament was always going to be a sapping occasion, with Malvern having to play five games in four hours to make it into the semi-finals.

Their task was made even harder when they lost their opening game to Worthing 19-14, still sluggish after a long journey and a very early start from Spring Lane!

But once they'd warmed up, the side started to stamp their authority on their group.

A 53-5 thumping of Alton, from Hampshire, set the tone, Dan Rushforth scoring a remarkable six tries. Wins over Lordswood (Kent) 48-0, Vandals (London) 35-0 and Fullerians (Watford) 31-5, took them through to the last four.

Although the speed, handling, and power of county players Jamie Blackmore, Dan Rushforth, Adam Green and Chris Prosser dominated the try count throughout the day, Malvern conceded just eight tries with a defence superbly marshalled by Richie Richardson, Liam Maloney, Andy Powell and Patrick Jelly.

The semi-finals offered the chance to get revenge on London Irish for defeat in last year's final.

The game plan, to play wide and support, worked perfectly with Matt Tighe's reading of the game and slight of hand showing why he is in the England Academy.

Chris Prosser scored a hat-trick, Andy Powell a brace, and the 43-5 scoreline didn't flatter Malvern against their higher profile but stunned opposition. The Exiles coach called it a "superb display".

Seven hours after their opening match, the final was to be a repeat against Worthing.

Unlike the morning Malvern were at the top of the game, and the Sussex side had no answer to Chris Prosser's pace, the county sprinter scoring all four tries, his finishing doing justice to the great service of Chris Rodway and the wonderful running lines found by Tom Kennedy.

Malvern were the champions, 26-10 the score. All in all, a great success, where the Under 15s did the club and the town of Malvern proud.

In two weeks' time the squad will travel to Limerick to pit their 15-a-side wits against two of Ireland's biggest clubs, Shannon and Young Munster.
