MP Sir Michael Spicer is urging health bosses to look again at Seaford Court as a possible site for two of the town's GP surgeries.

South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust announced earlier this year that it was looking at moving two surgeries, Court Road surgery at Barnards Green and Malvern Health Centre at Victoria Park, to an edge-of-town site on Townsend Way.

This provoked concern that the location was inaccessible and that moving the surgeries out of the Green and the Link would damage local communities. Now Sir Michael has written to Mike Ridley, the trust's director, urging him to consider Seaford Court, the site earmarked for a new Malvern Hospital, as an alternative.

"If the new hospital was to go ahead on this site, as I sincerely hope it will, the two surgeries and the hospital would be co-located on a site much more accessible to the majority of Malvern residents," he said. "It would certainly mean that there could be no question of the sale of any land at Seaford Court prior to the building of the hospital and the two surgeries."

The trust says it is happy to look at the feasibility of the proposal. However, Gillian Goodlad, the trust's director of information, said: "While it may be possible to consider the relocation of Malvern Health Centre to this site, it's doubtful the relocation of Court Road Surgery there would be more desirable in terms of accessibility for their patients than the proposed Townsend Way site."
