I HAVE read recently of the possible moving of Ledbury Tourist Information Centre, by the Herefordshire Council, from its present prominent location at 3 The Homend, to the proposed St Katherine's complex.
This proposal would be a most retrograde step, in view of the importance of tourism to the future of this town and Hereford-shire generally.
The town fought hard to get it moved out of St Katherine's nearly 20 years ago and it is imperative it retains a prominent position on the main street.
I travel widely over many parts of the country for a national company within the tourism sector and visit many TIC's, of which very few, if any, are situated in a better position than the Ledbury location. It should be remembered that many of the residents of the town, who have moved here in recent years, have first come to the town as visitors.
The financial benefits to this town of leaving it on the main street far outweigh the benefits to Herefordshire Council if it were to be moved to St Katherine's.
The forthcoming elections give us all the opportunity to elect our representatives to Herefordshire Council, who should consider the future well-being of Ledbury before the supporting the ever increasing domination of the county.
KEN DAVIES, president Ledbury Tourist Association, Falcon Lane, Ledbury.
