TO the people of Malvern wake up! We are entitled to leisure and sports facilities better than those we have.
The improvements at Dyson Perrins School will not satisfy the majority of needs.
The answer is a proper sports and leisure centre, which should include an Olympic standard swimming pool with diving boards and much needed skate boarding, bladers and BMX bikers areas and how about an ice skating rink. It would also be nice to have an indoor arena to address all other sports.
I feel North Site would be an ideal location for such a project.
Let's face it, if a town like Pershore can have a £4.5 million leisure centre built by the council, why not Malvern?
The town council in its wisdom squandered our money on that folly on Belle Vue Terrace and now we hear MHDC plan to build new premises, all in the name of serving the disabled of this town, with which I am in sympathy because my mother is disabled but surely existing council buildings could be modified with ramps and lifts at a fraction of the cost.
The blatant waste of our money in this town is appalling. The mural on the Victoria chemist wall in the Link, also the water feature in Hampden Road. If it were in France it would have had a partition around it with a placard saying 'Public Toilet'.
I suggest to those who think they are 'mightier than thou', pay attention to the people of this town and supply us with the hospital the people have been working hard to get for years and also the sports and leisure centre mentioned.
I ask the people of this town to put pen to paper and express your views to the council. Let it know just how concerned you are as to what happens in Malvern. Do not forget it is our money being used, if we don't demand we do not get.
D A APPLEBY, Leigh Sinton Road, Malvern.
