BARBARA Watton (Your Letters, April 4) has clearly got the wrong idea concerning the town council's proposals for its offices and Community Action.
The council, ever since it was formed, has provided offices at Belle Vue highly subsidised to the tune of many thousands of pounds per year as against the commercial rent, which it could obtain for them.
Nevertheless, the council has a duty to its tax payers to ensure it gets best value for the use of its offices - clearly at present it does not. The office premises are under-utilised as a whole and we would be failing in our duty if we were not to consider what should be done about it. One, and only one, of the choices open to us is to sell the premises.
We must look at all the options and no decision can be taken on its future until the information has been provided which will allow a proper decision to be taken.
I am quite sure the council will continue to support Community Action in the future wherever they may be, in the council offices or not.
COUN KEITH PHILLIPS, Avenue Road, Malvern.
