Perhaps the Editor can muster a sounder argument than myself, but I fail to see why the case of the two women who received parking penalties on the Lawnside Car Park (Ledbury Reporter, April 4) should have received such prominence.

By their own admission they both parked improperly by straddling the clearly marked white lines demarcating the parking bays. The fact that they had not read the very prominent notice is no excuse.

Everyone who drives a car should know how to park and the argument that "that's where I've always parked" is totally irrelevant. The parking bays are as they are now, not when they last parked there.

Perhaps they should consider the following scenario. They have arrived in the car park to go for a swim and find they cannot find a parking space because a couple of selfish drivers have taken up two spaces each by bad parking. How would they feel then? That is why we have these 'petty' rules and why we pay the inspectors to enforce them.
