MR Lowder (Your Letters, March 28) appears to have missed the point when he said that it doesn't matter where support comes from as long as it's here. In the case of a pub, of course it matters.

Patrons living outside the village would have to drive to the pub and, unless they wish to break the law by drink-driving, they would only be spending the equivalent of one and a half pints of beer. Unless, of course, it is the locals who are going to walk to the pub, who will be spending all their free time (and money) keeping the pub going

Village lifestyles are more family orientated (who wants to drag young children to the pub every night) and have many more hobbies and sports. Most men I know would rather spend their leisure time watching television with a few cans of lager in the comfort of their own homes.
