CECIL Duckworth believes tomorrow's showpiece Sixways clash is one in the eye for rugby's ring-fence brigade.
Worcester Rugby Club's chairman, who has long campaigned against the Premiership ethos of no relegation from the top flight, is delighted Sixways will be the centre of attention in tomorrow's National One clash with Rotherham (4pm).
With Sky's camera's bringing the game to millions of homes on Saturday, Duckworth believes the interest generated by the promotion race shoots down any thou-ghts of ring fencing the Premiership and scrapping relegation.
"Sky are here in force for the big game," he said. "They are right behind the promotion race and relegation scrap, as most of the Press are. The public understand the need for promotion and relegation.
"So this game is embarrassing for the few people who believe in ring- fencing. We have to change their minds and tomorrow represents a chance to do that.
"It's very short-sighted of the Premiership clubs to bang on about ring-fencing it. My view is that we should be cashing in on the success of rugby now. We should go for expansion. If there was a long-term plan in place with promotion and relegation, then more people would invest in first division rugby and the game would move forward."
Worcester go into the match two points behind leaders Rotherham. But, with only two league games remaining after tomorrow's clash, Worcester have a golden opportunity to take over pole position with victory over the old enemy.
"This time we are at home, just two points off the top and have a great chance," added Duckworth.
"I feel the squad have the determination to do it. I think we have the inner belief. We believe this is our moment in history.
"Victory at Sixways would be absolutely fantastic for everyone at the club but also for the city of Worcester."
