A Basketball invitational tournament held at Hanley Castle High School proved so popular that plans are already being considered for it to be repeated and extended to other teams in the future.
The event received Lottery funding through the Active Sports scheme co-ordinated by the Wor-cestershire All Sports Partnership.
Worcester City Council, the Malvern Magic Basketball Club and Perdiswell Pacers pitched in to help set up the competition for four teams of boys aged 11-14.
Two Malvern Magic teams and two from Worcester's Perdiswell Pacers played three games against each other in a mini league to decide who should go through to the final.
The top slots went to both Perdiswell teams and the Pacer A team eventually carried off the trophy with a 22-16 victory over Pacer B. A plaque was presented to the Pacers coach, Larry Kineman.
"It was a fantastic evening and everyone taking part displayed the best traditions of sportsmanship," said Simon Rusling, Community Activator for Malvern Hills District Council.
"I would like to thank everyone involved, particularly Diane Sutherland from Malvern Magic Basketball Club for helping myself and Clare Nicholls, the Sports Development officer for Worcester City, to set up the evening."
Malvern Magic are searching for new players, both boys and girls aged 10 to 16. Anyone interested should contact Diane Sutherland on 01684 892459.
