AMERICAN author Patrick Gariepy wants to hear from anyone with mementos of the Gallipoli campaign in the First World War.

Mr Gariepy of Eugene, Oregon, says: "I am writing a book about the Gallipoli campaign of the First World War, but it is a book with a twist.

"It will be a survey of the campaign tied together with contemporary accounts about men who died, in an effort to clarify the human toll of the campaign. These accounts will be taken from personal and unit war diaries, letters, missing in action reports and family lore.

"My hope is to complete the book by 2004, so that it might be available in 2005, the 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign.

"I would like to make an appeal to your readers for copies of diaries, letters, photos and photos of gravestones relating to men who died at, or because of their service at, Gallipoli.
