INJURIES to Scott Stamps and Adie Smith could lead to long-term casualty Ian Foster being on the substitutes bench for tonight's Nationwide League Division Three clash against leaders Chesterfield at Aggborough (7.45).
Front-runner Foster has not played since he scored in Harriers 2-0 win at Brighton on August 28 because of hamstring trouble.
The injury has required intensive treatment and he has only recently returned to full time training.
The latest knocks to Stamps and Smith, however, may mean he will take an earlier than expected step nearer regaining his first team spot.
He is also pencilled in to step up his fitness programme by playing for Harriers reserves against their Hereford United counterparts at Edgar Street tomorrow night.
Defender Stamps is ruled out of tonight's match because of a foot injury which forced him to be substituted at half time in Saturday's goalless draw with Exeter City at Aggborough.
Smith, who dropped back from midfield to defence when Stamps was replaced against Exeter, is regarded as having only a '50-50' chance of facing Chesterfield. He is also suffering from a foot injury.
But one who will definately be missing is goalkeeper Stuart Brock, still out with a knee injury.
Harriers boss Jan Molby, meanwhile, is expecting his side to face their sternest Division Three test so far against a Chesterfield side five points clear of Brighton at the top of the table.
He said: "They have had a fantastic run and are still unbeaten away from home this season.
"They are one of the relegated sides from last season that we expected to do well, but I think they have done better than what people thought.
"They are big and powerful, but they play some good stuff. Away from home they have been to Cheltenham, Rochdale and Scunthorpe and picked up some great results.
"John Duncan was manager there for a number of years and had them very organised, but Nicky Law has gone there and he's allowed them a little bit more freedom in the way they play.
"They look a very powerful outfit and it's going to be difficult for us, but we'll certainly give it a good shot. We don't rule anything out, although it will be tough because if the fans think they have seen good teams, for example Darlington, Rochdale and Blackpool, then Chesterfield are probably another level up.
"It looks like they are going to run away with Division Three. They have got a big squad. We have watched them a couple of times and every time it's been a different team."
