WORCESTER was thrown back 350 years when the Battle for Fort Royal Hill was re-enacted at the weekend.
The anniversary was celebrated in style as history buffs donned full battle gear and thrust their spears at their opponents.
The dramatic scenes reflected the heavy losses that the Scots suffered in their bid to hold on to the hill, prior to the Battle of Worcester on September 3, 1651.
They were forced into the defences on Fort Royal when fighting reached the outskirts of city and when they refused to surrender an estimated 1,500 men were massacred.
As the final stages of the battle began, one man described how the Scots were "trodden down and slain in the streets".
And the road into the Faithful city was said to have been lined with Scottish dead all along the route.
