ADRIAN Skeggs has ordered his Worcester Rugby Club side to brush up on their skills despite booking their place in the fifth round of the Tetley Bitter Cup with a convincing 76-12 victory at Tyne-dale on Saturday.
The Worcester director of coaching will have his first-team squad stripping down and painting the Sixways dressing rooms today in an attempt to encourage team bonding ahead of their mouth-watering cup tie at Saracens.
The Australian was pleased with his team's showing in the North East but warned this weekend's clash will be a different ball game altogether.
And in an attempt to reinforce the spirit in the squad, the players will be decked out in overalls and brushes as they touch up the club.
Skeggs said: "The guys will be painting rooms, washing the windows and generally working at the club. The psychology behind that is for the players to get a feeling for the club.
"It's something a bit different but for me it's just about getting the players working for the club. We know they can do it on the pitch but I want them to feel for the club off it."
On the Tynedale win, Skeggs said: "I was very pleased with the performance - we showed what we were capable of today and I think some of the guys coming in showed that they wanted to stay there.
"We needed a performance like that to boost the confidence. I thought Richard Jarman was impressive as was Ian Calder who did some good stuff. The result was irrelevant because I didn't feel as if we were ever in danger of losing the match but overall I am pleased.
"Saracens will be a different story though."
Skeggs is aware his side will not be able to brush aside Saracens so easily. Therefore he is hoping the extra bit of team building may give Worcester the edge on Sunday.
He said: "The painting and cleaning work will pull them all together. There is already a good spirit within the camp but I want to add to that.
Saracens will be training as per usual on Monday but for me, what my players will be doing at Sixways will make them understand what they are there for and who they are there for.
"They'll get a bit of a shock but I think it is important to respect the club and this will help to achieve that."
One thing is for sure, if Worcester can topple the Premiership top dogs, it will be Skeggs who will be painting the town red.
