CARL Tranter put himself in the frame for a Worcester City recall by scoring four goals in their 5-0 Worcester Royal Infirmary Senior Cup first round win over Westfields last night.
Tranter, coming back to fitness after an ankle injury, made City's other goal and also hit the post as City cruised home against their Banks's Brewery League opponents.
He completed his hat-trick after only 17 minutes, first converting a Mike Wyatt cross, then slotting home a penalty after Jamie Hyde had been brought down by Matt Phillips, and finally thumping the ball home after a fine one-two with strike partner Micky Cotter.
Westfields refused to buckle with goalkeeper Jon Pugh performing bravely, but City made it 4-0 on 59 minutes when Tranter set up young midfielder Danny Scheppel for an emphatic finish.
Eight minutes later Tranter got his fourth with a low 20-yard shot.
Worcester: P. Wyatt, Carty, Bradley, Joyce, Weir, Lutz (Cottrill 46), M. Wyatt (Burns 62), Scheppel, Tranter, Cotter (Hodgetts 46), Hyde. Subs not used: Heeley, McDonnell.
Danny McDonnell and Mark Owen have both withdrawn from the Dr Martens League representative squad to take on an Football Association XI at Crawley tonight. Striker Owen has a slight groin strain while goalkeeper McDonnell cannot make the trip due to work commitments.
City face a third meeting this season with Tamworth after being drawn away to them in the second round of the Dr Martens Cup. The tie will be played on Tuesday, December 12.
