ONLY hours after being named in the Worcester side for his first start of the season, Nick Baxter was back on the treatment table yesterday afternoon.
It summed up the start of the season for Sixways' favourite winger who, after undergoing a clean-up operation on his knee in the summer, has been out of action and missed the big kick-off.
And after being picked for the 15 to face Manchester today in the National League Division One clash, Baxter tweaked a hamstring, making him a doubt for Grove Lane.
However, Baxter is determined to show new coach Adrian Skeggs his quality and is busting a gut to make the game.
He said: "It's been a nightmare for me because you obviously want to show new coaching staff just what you are capable of and I haven't been able to.
"The management, however, have been very supportive and have made it clear to me that I am part of their plans for the season ahead.
"I am not the best watcher of games and I have been like a bear with a sore head over the last few weeks.
"I don't know how my wife has put up with me!"
The 27-year-old, who is in his seventh season at Sixways, has seen 19 new players as well as a new coach come through the doors in the summer and admits it has been a worrying time.
He said: "The calibre of player to come in has been excellent and also in my position this summer. But I'm used to that here.
"The only problem is, you're only as good as your last game and I haven't yet been able to show the new coach what Nick Baxter is capable of.
"However, I can assure everyone here and the supporters - there is more to come from me.
"I am desperate to get out there and play because I feel confident in my own ability and still think the best is yet to come from me."
After a number of false dawns, Baxter is confident Worcester can take the extra step this season and win promotion to the Zurich Premiership.
