THE humanitarian needs of Iraq are increasing day by day. As ever, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is there to help people in need.

In Basra, for example, the Red Cross is working hard with local engineers to restore the water supply in the city. In the urban centres where the water supply has been cut off, the Red Cross is in contact with local authorities to discuss how to best improve the situation.

In Baghdad, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is supplying 10,000 one-litre drinking water bags every day to hospitals and health centres, and drinking water is being distributed to poorly-served parts of Baghdad. The British Red Cross has launched an appeal, and you can donate simply by calling 08705 125125, or by visiting www.redcross.org.uk/iraqcrisis
