WERNER Swanepoel is out for the rest of the season.
Worcester Rugby Club's skipper tore his Achilles in Saturday's 21-9 defeat to National One title rivals Rotherham and will now miss the final two league games with Birmingham & Solihull and Rugby Lions.
The news comes just 24 hours after fly half Tim Walsh was sidelined for the rest of the campaign following an enforced three-week absence because of concussion.
"It's a blow for me because I wanted to play in the final home game of the season on Saturday," said Swanepoel.
"It is always a chance to say thank you to the supporters for their help during the season.
"We're all desperately down after the Rotherham defeat but we must make sure we put pressure on them in these final two games of the season. You never know what may happen in sport."
Worcester have a number of injury concerns ahead of Saturday's Sixways clash with Phil Maynard's side.
With Walsh, Swanepoel and flanker Gavin Pfister ruled out, prop Neil Lyman is also unlikely to be fit for the penultimate league encounter because of a sternum injury.
Fly half James Brown, however, is hoping to play some part after making good progress following his rib injury.
Meanwhile, Craig Quinnell looks likely to move back to Wales in the summer after Cardiff rekindled their interest in him.
David Young, who has been named as one of the five new coaches of the new regional Cardiff side, immediately expressed an interest in attracting Quinnell back to the Arms Park.
"Craig is available in the summer and we will be interested," said Young.
The utility forward joined Worcester in January on a short-term contract but will not be staying on.
After leaving Saracens in December, just six months into his newly-signed four-year contract, the former Welsh international was initially tempted by a move back to Cardiff.
With all the uncertainty surrounding the Welsh game at that time, however, Quinnell plumped for Worcester instead.
It was, though, always a temporary deal and, after starting just four games for the Sixways club, he will not be kept on.
