DROITWICH Spa RFC First XV have made history after winning promotion for the first time in the club's 30-year history.
Spa clinched the runners-up spot in Midlands Four West (South) after gaining the eight-point victory margin needed with a nail-biting and extremely tense 17-8 success over Old Yardelians, the only team who could stop them going up.
Julian Bailey's side, who move up to Midlands Three West (South), even held out for a ten-minute second half spell with 13 men after Lee Mortlock and Nick Godfrey were sent to the sin bin.
A delighted director of rugby Bailey said: "I am over the moon - it was an absolutely fantastic result.
"I give credit to the lads, they showed a lot of character and a lot of composure. They showed what they are capable of.
"The desire was there and they wanted it."
Coach Neil Evans, who is leaving the club, added: "It's difficult to put into words.
They called me over when they were bottom, stuck by me and we have won."
