FORTY-FOUR members turned up for Tuesday's Northfield Starlets Veterans contest, which was held on Woodlands Views Deans pool.

Leading a strong line-up was Bill Drew (Bewdley) who pole fished corn and worms at peg 36 for 65-9-0. Second place John Allington (Hereford) had 59-13-0 from opposite peg 64 and third was Ken Giles (Alvechurch) with 37-14-0.

Wednesday's Astwood Fisheries Buddleia pool open was won by John Halfpenny (Astwood) with 34-0-0 of Carp and Tench taken with pole fished corn from peg 86. Rob Francis (Droitwich Angling Centre) took 32-6-0 for second with third going to Brian Williams (Astwood) with 15-9-0.

Moorlands Farms Meadow pool open gave Tony Parker a close victory with a 64-2-0 catch taken with pole and corn from peg 24. Nigel Davis (Worcester PO) had 62-7-0 for second and John Gardner (Gloucs) was third with 46-14-0.

On Thursday, the Moorlands Farm costcutter open went to Alan Bartlam (Barford) with a pole corn and meat catch of 63-0-0 from Meadow pool peg 55. Close on his heels was Mark Tooze (Lifestyle) with 61-12-0; third, Mark Blackburn (West Mids Police), 51-1-0.

Thursday also saw the Midland Bears Disabled AA at Woodlands Views High pool. Winner Bill Wilson (Birmingham) pole fished meat in the margins of peg 22 to take 46-4-0 of Carp. Terry Shipley (Birmingham) was second with 37-2-0 while third was Keith Chambers (Shirley), taking 31-8-0.

The KH Veterans held their event on Moorlands Farm's Bank and Moors pools and Bill Drew (Bewdley) made it a double victory by pole fishing corn and meat at Moors peg four to take seven big Carp for 35-12-0. Close by at peg six was Roy Dugmore (Northfield) who secured second place with 33-2-0. Third, John Allington (Hereford), 24-2-0.

At Woodlands View's Friday afternoon open Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco Elite) continued his good run by taking a winning 85-15-0 by pole fishing corn and meat at Deans pool peg 42. Joint second were Kevin Slade (AOK) and Dave Williams (CSM) with 79-5-0.

On Saturday, round two of the Woodlands View Spring league for teams of four saw Andy Dare (Daiwa Trentmen Red) take the top individual honours by pole fishing corn and meat up in the water at High pool peg 14 for 114-1-0 of Carp.

Rob Gandley (Map Starlets) was way back in second place with 85-10-0 while third was Mark Lucas (Mosella Ted Carters) with 83-2-0. Top team on the day was Mosella Ted Carters with 18 points; Daiwa Trentmen Red 20; Sensas Midland Match A 28. Overall, Daiwa Trentmen Red lead with 39; Sensas Midland Matchmen A 48; DGL 49.

The Moorlands Farm open was won by Mal Talbot (Kamasan) by pole fishing corn at Meadow pool peg 15 for 93-15-0. Mal Watson (Shakespeare) followed with 85-5-0; third, Derek Hopkins (Bromsgrove), 78-1-0.

The evening bank pool open saw a new three-hour Moorlands record set by David James (Trabucco) when he pole fished corn at peg nine to take a very impressive 174-2-0. Gary Skerritt (Trevs of Wimslow) was second with 106-1-0; third, Harry Ward (Moorlands), 60-3-0.

The Cornerstone open was held on the Grand Union Canal at Small Heath in Birmingham. Taking a close victory was Wayne Shipley (Harris MG) who pole fished squats and casters at peg 36 to take a mixture of Skimmers and Roach for 6-12-0. Runner-up Keith Woodhead (Ovation Leisure) had a similar catch of 6-4-0 and third was Paul Archer (Jets MG), taking 5-12-0.

On Sunday, the 100 AC held round five of its individual winter leaguer at Stoke Works on the Birmingham-Worcester Canal.

In first place was Rubery top rod Keith Woodhead who pole fished casters down the track just below the triangle for 2-9-0 of Roach. Second was Gary Booth's 1-11-0 with yours truly Tony Brunn third with 1-4-8. Booth moved up to league leader with 21 points; Paul Butler and Stuart Cutler are joint second on 25 points.

Warren Blizzard (R & D MG) was the winner of the Woodlands View Deans pool open with a modest 33-10-0 catch taken with pole corn and casters from peg six. Second was Chris Hook's (Mosella Veals) 26-2-0 and third was Paul Sibley (Shimano Portway), taking 19-8-0.

Astwood Fisheries' Smokey Joe's pool open went to Tim Kibble (Swan AC) who waggler fished luncheon meat at peg 29 for 39-14-0. His club mate Stuart Aston was second with 29-4-0; third, Trevor Hodges (Reservoir Dogs), 18-4-0.
