DEAR EDITOR -- There have been numerous letters expressing disgust at the way people are treated by the clamping organisation knowN as Midland Parking Contracts.

There are accusations of bullying and intimidation with the police being notified on regular occasions.

The police appear to be very limited in their powers as MPC rarely go too far and breach the line which would result in a prosecution being levelled against them.

It was with pure delight that this week, whilst listening to a local consumer affairs radio programme, that a guest on that show was detailing imminent plans to licence and properly control these bullyboys who just cannot wait to pounce on the unsuspecting motorist.

We are all aware that if we park where it says we will be clamped that we stand more than a good chance of actually being clamped. That does not appear to be the issue. What is the issue is the way the motorist is treated by the clamping companies.

New legislation will see the operators and their staff properly trained and answerable to a higher governing body with the power to stop them in their tracks if foul play is suspected.

What raised my spirits more than this was that the lady stated that for operators who had been reported to the police on numerous occasions for heavy-handed tactics or abusive behaviour would be unlikely to even be considered for a licence.

May I suggest that the two thugs who prowl on and apparently intimidate the motorists in the Bromsgrove area start looking for alternative employment immediately, but please don't call into my shop - as a refusal often offends.

Parking Motorist,
