BROMSGROVE firefighters were unusually busy at the weekend as they were called to a number of blazes across the town.
There were two flat fires within 12 hours of each other last Saturday. The first was at 3.30am at a flat in Burcot House, Burcot Lane. One man was treated for smoke inhalation.
The second fire broke out in a ground floor flat in Austin Road, Charford, at 3.15pm. The lounge was well alight and the rest of the flat was smoke damaged. No one was hurt.
The town crew was also called to deal with a car fire in Perryfields Road at 4am on Saturday morning. It was a small blaze and no one was injured.
At 12.22pm last Saturday afternoon there was a fuel leak on the A38 near to the Oakalls estate and the Slideslow Island. Firefighters were called out to make the road safe.
Just under two hours later, at 2.07pm, the crew attended a tractor fire in a field off Birmingham Road. Both tractor and trailer were well alight and foam was used to extinguish the blaze.
A distressed man was rescued from the roof of a house in Birmingham Road at 4.06pm. He was unable to get himself off the roof and firefighters used ladders to help him down.
Last Sunday morning, at 8am, firefighters were called to reports of a hot air balloon, which had crashed in the grounds of Charford First School in Charford Road.
However, when they arrived they discovered it was a planned landing and no one was hurt.
