INGENIOUS vehicles were spotted whizzing around a town playground when students held an egg race.

Witton Middle School, in Old Coach Road, has been holding the event for 13 years as part of its Easter celebrations.

Children must make a vehicle that can carry a Cadbury's Cream Egg but it must be powered by an elastic band.

Prizes are available for the models which travel the furthest and look the most attractive.

Seven youngsters scooped awards and year seven student Jenny Hebden won first prize.

Her model sped more than ten metres across the playground.

A school spokeswoman said: "The vehicles become more ingenious and varied every year."
