THE grand sum of £45,000 has been secured for the refurbishment of a popular town hall in Droitwich Spa.
Wychavon District Council has released the cash for Droitwich Spa Community Hall, in Heritage Way, following its full council meeting last Tuesday.
Droitwich Spa Town Council requested the funding, which came with a 106 planning agreement with William Davis.
When the developer built homes in Addyes Way, on the Ridings Estate, £45,000 was secured for community use.
This funding will enable the town council to carry out structural and cosmetic works and bring the building in line with current health and safety standards.
Cash will be spent specifically on roof repairs, damp treatments, flooring, a replacement kitchen, central heating, window glazing and decoration.
Many town groups and societies use the hall and the adjacent John Corbett Room, which has recently been out of action following damage to the roof.
It's also a popular venue for town meetings and elections.
William Davis stumped up a further £350,000 as part of its planning agreement with Wychavon for the development of Ridings.
This money is still to be allocated to projects, although some of it could be spent on open space off Primsland Way and the refurbishment of Blake Avenue church hall.
District councillor Pam Davey (Con - Droit.Central) proposed the use of monies for the Heritage Way community hall and said it received unanimous support from all political parties.
