Ludlow 25 pts Telford 10-
LUDLOW finished their Midlands Four West (North) campaign in style when they gave probably their best performance of the season to beat the champions Telford in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
It was a classic clash with Ludlow having the edge in the forwards and Telford's backs always looking dangerous.
The visitors started brightly and pushed Ludlow back. However, Ludlow broke away and after a series of powerful rolling mauls near the Telford line, flanker Paul Wright broke away to cross in the corner.
Fly-half Mark Williams landed the conversion with a superb kick from the touchline, and minutes later extended the home lead with a penalty.
Telford hit back with a thrilling breakaway following an interception, but on the stroke of half-time the powerful home pack set up another series of mauls for flanker Rob Evans to restore the 10-point advantage.
The visitors stepped up a gear to put Ludlow under sustained pressure. Their exiting backs switched play a couple of times and eventually worked an overlap to score wide out. Back came the Ludlow eight with another series of strong drives to set up a rolling maul near Telford's line, and this time it was prop Matt Young who drove off the back to touch down. Then came the best try. Full-back Andrew Hamer fielded a clearing kick and found Williams with a superb cross-field pass. The fly-half created an overlap and slick passing put James Charters in for a final try.
