A PAIR of cyclists were taking a well-earned rest today after they returned to Worcester yesterday following a 992 -mile cross country cycle ride.
Dave Preece and Mike Davies cycled from Land's End in Cornwall to John O' Groats in Scotland.
It took the pair 14 days to complete the journey and in the process, the two managed to raise around £1,500 for the Air Ambulance.
Dave Preece, from Cranesbill Drive, Worcester, said it was something they have always wanted to do. On one day alone they managed to cover 95 miles.
"It rained on the first day and on the last day but apart from that it was sunny, which was pretty lucky," said Dave, aged 30, who works at the Worcester Aquatic Centre on Droitwich Road.
His friend Mike Davies, 23, said the whole journey was tremendous and it was not possible to pick out a bad day.
"I would do it all again if I had the money," said Mike. "But the tiredness will probably set in a couple of days' time."
The two said they did not have to make any forward plans on where to sleep because it was easy to find a bed and breakfast and they even had time to enjoy a good night out.
"Last Sunday, we ended up in a local bikers' bar and when we walked in everyone stared at us," said Mike.
"After a few pints it became really friendly, but I don't know how we got home though."
