A SEASONED balloonist says that paramedics who witnessed a crash landing at a Bromsgrove school were watching a controlled landing.

In Monday's Evening News two paramedics said they saw a balloon crash into a field at Charford First School.

But Graham Clark, a former safety officer with the British Ballooning and Airship Club, said it was a routine landing for the crew.

"The fact that they were pulling the line means they were trying to deflate it," said Mr Clark.

"When you're 10 to 15 feet off the ground you start to pull the line and when it lands it comes to a halt.

"When you're in a balloon you look for somewhere suitable to land, somewhere where there are no animals or crops.

Myth

"Unfortunately there is a myth that balloonists just fly along and drop down out of control.

"If there had been children playing there they wouldn't have landed there.

"The paramedics aren't any different from anyone else - if they don't know anything about ballooning it can look quite dramatic."

The balloonists were seen landed around 8am on Sunday, April 13.
