GARDEN CLUB: Members had an eventful week, commencing with their Spring
Show and followed by the AGM and a talk by Glyn Jones.
The Spring Show was up to its usual standard and the display of flowers was superb. Basil Hart won the "Silver Vase in memory of Miss Stella Elphick" for the most points in the show. Following closely were: Peter Righton, Lucy Dunphey and Dorothy Drinkwater.
Peter Righton won a shield for the best exhibit in the show with his entry in Class 6 "A vase of three pink trumpet daffodils". The youngest member Kate Frost came first in class 27 with her six pansies.
The club annual general meeting was introduced by the President Douglas Drinkwater. Two members, David White and Sue Hunt were nominated for the committee. David White will take over as treasurer from Vince Dorrington. Sue Hunt will take over as programme secretary from Pam White who is also the chairman.
This was followed by a talk given by Glyn Jones, Head Gardener at Hidcote Manor Gardens. Glyn described the changes that had taken place since the members last visit two years ago.
The next meeting of the club on May 13 is a visit to Hidcote Manor Gardens to see the progress that has taken place. Members to meet at 7p.m. in the car park and may take a picnic if they wish. Any new members will be most welcome to go along to this meeting. For further details ring 01386 593085.
