CYCLING: Stourport's Liam Preece was second overall in the second round of the Curborough Youth League at the race circuit near Lichfield on Saturday and still leads the series.
The Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club rider finished second in the one-mile time trial then was runner-up in the 14-mile road race to retain his advantage in the six-round series.
Good times were clocked by club riders in the Stratford CC 10-mile time trial at Evesham on Saturday with Anthony Richardson being the fastest in 23 minutes 25 seconds.
Matt Ashcroft recorded 23-43, Dave Wood 24-38 and Mick Gray 29-19.
The winner was Stourbridge CC rider Barry Charley in 20-47.
A strong Wyre Forest team entered the Birmingham CC 4-Up 50km team time trial at Alcester on Sunday.
Steve Burns, Ian Smith, Rob Holbeche and Preece covered the first 25 miles in 54 minutes 10 seconds, despite the windy conditions.
They finished the course in one hour 8-08 to come seventh out of 41 teams entered. Stourbridge won the event.
Richardson was again the fastest rider in the Over-50s category of the Western TTA Hilly 31-mile time trial at Sutton Benger, Wiltshire.
He managed a time of 1-20-25, behind Steve Marchant of Swindon RC who completed in 1-13-6.
Phil Blacker managed to hang on for sixth place in a sprint finish of the Wrekinsport Spring road race at Eton Constantine, Shropshire, on Sunday, despite a crash in the final metres.
The Wyre Forest club's open event of the season is a hilly 26-mile time trial tomorrow over a course which includes climbs of Clee Hill and Clows Top.
Mike Haddon will be the first Wyre Forest rider off at 8.01am, with Chris Poole, Aiden Collings, Howard Jones, Richardson and Preece following.
