HOCKEY: Unbeaten Stourport Ladies took the County Championship in style on Sunday without losing a match at their Astro pitches.
They opened up with a 2-1 victory over Droitwich despite being a goal down until the final eight minutes when Fran Long and Kate Bailey scored.
Another Bailey strike and a goal for Kerry Walker gave Stourport a 2-0 win over Bournville before they recorded their biggest success of the tournament.
Evesham were hammered 10-0 with five goals for Bailey, four for Sarah Bentley and one from Walker.
Stourport made the final with maximum points following a 5-1 beating of Badsey with a hat-trick for Bentley and two more goals from Bailey.
Although they went a goal down early on against Old Sills in the final, the town fought back valiantly to win 4-1 through Walker (two), Long and Bentley.
Fran Hinett, Holly Tromans, Kerry Maughan, Katie Clowes and Louise Bagnall were also in the squad.
They will represent Worcestershire in the Midland regional round at Beeston, Nottingham, on May 11.
Olton 2 Stourport Ladies 1
Stourport were disappointed to finish their season on the losing side of a friendly at Olton.
In an evenly balanced match, with Stourport only fielding four regular first teamers, the visitors went ahead after 20 minutes when Vicky Bristow touched in Long's short corner at the post.
Despite a strong Stourport display, in particular from Alison Leeke, Annette Kirk and Alison Baron, Olton equalised before the break and scored the winner 15 minutes from the end.
Stourport 3rds 7 Studley 0
The thirds finished their season on a high with Sally Haines scoring four goals and Rosie Connolly three.
Stourport players also turned out for Studley who were short of numbers but the finishing of Haines and Connolly was too much.
