A TASTY starter was served up to Worcestershire's food and drink industry at the launch of the county council's Tastes of Worcestershire 2003 competition on Monday.
More than 100 people signed up, representing hotels, B&Bs, pubs and restaurants from across the county at the launch at Worcester Rugby Club.
The competition is run by the council's tourism unit and aims to highlight businesses that use local supplies.
Vale celebrity chef Alan Coxon, one of the judges, was there to encourage people to use local produce, and Jenny Beard, regional food and drink skills manager for Advantage West Midlands, held a practical session on how catering businesses can help themselves by marketing the fact that they use local produce.
Kathryn Wagstaff, the county tourism officer, said: "We also used the launch to show people the winners' leaflet. This has just been brought out to maximise the interest among visitors with Easter coming up. Copies of the best places to taste local produce can be found in local Tourist Information Centres."
Anyone interested in entering the competition should contact Joanne Moores for an entry pack on 01905 766746. The deadline for entries in Monday, June 30.
