WITH the season now at a close, Stourport Ladies section are able to look back on a reasonably successful campaign.

With their final league position still to be clarified, the ladies section have seen their veterans side finish as runners-up in the Wocestershire county competition.

Meanwhile the club entered a team in the seven-a-side league coming second in both the winter league and tournament.

However, during the Spring League at Hillcrest School in Netherton, the side won the league gaining 42 points.

Their record was p15, w14, l1 and in the tournament they p5 w3 d1 and l1 securing both titles.

Meanwhile Stourport have proceeded to the last 16 of the mixed plate when Tring conceded their match.

The club will play in the next round on May 4.

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Stourport took the county championship without losing a match.

They started their group matches with a 2-1 victory over Droitwich, despite going behind and only equalising with eight minutes left through a Fran Long strike.

They won with a goal three minutes from time by Kate Bailey.

In their second match they beat Bournville 2-1 with another Bailey strike and a goal by Kerry Walker sealing the victory.

Stourport recorded their biggest victory of the tournament with a 10-0 scoreline in their half an hour match against Evesham.

Bailey scored five, Sarah Bentley four and Walker one and the squad progressed to the final with maximum points when they beat Badsey 5-1 with two goals by Bailey and a hat-trick by Bentley.

Meeting Old Sils in the final the home side went down 1-0 after eight minutes, but fought back in the second half to win 4-1 and ensure that they will represent the county at the Midland region round at Beeston on May 11.

The scorers in the final were Walker, who found the net twice, Long and Bentley.

The successful squad was: Fran Hinnet, Holly Tromans, Vicky Bristow, Kate Bailey, Kerry Maughan, Alison Leeke, Katie Clowis, Fran Long, Louise Bagnall, Kerry Walker and Sarah Bentley.
