THE railways authorities have come under some criticism during the past 10 months or so for being inconsiderate to the needs of mobility impaired travellers, particularly when travelling to/from Evesham station.
Through your columns, I would like to thank publicly Mr Mike Crane of Thames Trains Ltd, and his management team, for solving a particular problem at Evesham.
Those travellers with impaired mobility, being holders of 'Blue Badges', will now be able to park in close proximity to the booking hall and platform. This week two 'Disabled Parking' bays have been allocated and marked out in front of the station building. (As is normal in such circumstances, users displaying a valid 'Blue Badge' may park free-of-charge.)
This action has demonstrated that Thames Trains do care about their customers' needs. Let us hope that their continuing efforts to explore ways in which the travellers confined to wheelchairs, and parents with push-chairs, may access the 'up' or 'London-bound' platform. I understand that their efforts to find a solution include on-going discussions with Wychavon District Council and Worcester County Council.
BRIAN CARTER, Chairman, Evesham Riverside Shopmobility, Bridge Street, Evesham.
