A YOUNG woman was airlifted to Hereford County Hospital with a suspected fractured pelvis after her car was in collision with a van.
Fire-fighters spent more than half-an-hour cutting the 19-year-old free from her Renault 5 car on the Newtown crossroads near Lower Egleton, after the impact on her driver's side door from a Mercedes van on the A4103, yesterday.
Sub Officer Elwyn Hamer, from Hereford fire station, said paramedics spent time stabilising the woman, before its 12-strong team began cutting the roof off the vehicle at around 9.45am.
"We had to cut the roof off, because the vehicle had been hit on the side and she was trapped by the door," he said.
"A backboard was placed behind her back, which she was then securely strapped to, before being taken to hospital by the county air ambulance.
"We do typically get injuries to the pelvis and hip in this type of collision."
The air ambulance crew was able to land in adjacent fields, helping the woman to reach hospital as quickly as possible.
