A VERY successful target bowls competition was staged in Redmarley Village Hall by Redmarley Short Mat Bowls Club, when eight clubs from the North Gloucestershire region accepted an invitation to attend. Altogether 18 teams took part in the day long event accompanied by some spectators. The competition consisted of five different target disciplines in which some members of the home team participated achieving good scores. Competition trophy winners were champions - Pat Rushby and Lillian Smith representing Twyning (119 pts), the runners-up were Paddy and Sue Kenneally, representing Woodmancote with 94 points.
Best achievements for Redmarley were Lione and Gloria Mathews, who came third overall with a splendid score of 87 points. This was a superb effort considering that they only started bowling seven months ago. A lot of hard work was put in by all the volunteers of Redmarley Club. Now, as it was such a success, it is hoped to make it an annual event. The club is still looking for more members as they plan to run a second session during the week. The game can be played by all ages from 10-90+, bowling sessions are held every Thursday from 2-5pm.
