A NEW £20,000 grant scheme for local community projects has been hailed as a 'lifeline' for the volunteer sector.
Community Action's Mike McKnight said community groups and projects were struggling nationwide and the new grants from Malvern Hills District Council would be a great help.
Grants under the scheme can cover up to 90 per cent of eligible projects, up to a maximum of £1,000 per application.
MHDC's executive board only agreed the funds at the end of March, but economic development manager Simon Smith said interest from groups had already been considerable.
Successful applications will be selected by the council's grants committee in July. Application packs are available by telephoning 01684 862199 or emailing simon.smith@malvernhills.gov.uk. Forms must be returned by June 13.
